6 WEEK CLASS. Ages 7 - 14, Meets once a week on Monday, 5:00 - 6:00pm CST. Dates: Jan 11 - Feb 22, no class Feb 15 for Mardi Gras

This class will explore various holidays and celebrations that take place in January and February! Students of beginner and advanced experience levels are welcome. Anything you can imagine can be built out of clay, and we will explore this incredible medium together. Campers will study the art of ceramics and learn various techniques for hand building with clay, including coils, pinching and slabs. We will also study elements of sculpture - shape, texture, form, and color. Projects include King Cake wreaths, Mardi Gras doubloons, commemorative MLK day plates, valentines gifts and more. Class Agenda:

Jan 11: Mardi Gras Masks, doubloons and beads, king cake babies, decorative King Cake Wreaths.

Jan 18: Martin Luther King Jr day, Commemorative plates

Jan 25: Valentines gifts, instead of handing out traditional paper cards, students will make clay heart valentines for all of their friends.

Feb 1: Finish puppets, lanterns around a jar

Feb. 8: Chinese New years, Lion puppets.

Feb 15: No Class, Mardi Gras holiday

Feb 22: Class choice, we will discuss options for this day on Feb 1 and the students can choose what project they would like to do.

Required Materials: Air Dry Clay - We recommend white 3-5lbs Crayola Clay or Activ-clay

Acrylic/Washable Paint Suggestions: Any sort of acrylic or washable paint you have at home will work. (Water color paint will not work for our purposes.) Crayola Acrylic Paint Set, Crayola Washable Paint Set

Rustoleum Triple Thick Clear High-gloss Glaze 

Basic water color set

Wire, ribbon,  glass jar,  small battery lights, felt, fabric, faux fur, feather boa or other decorations for lion puppets - get creative with what you have at home!

2-4 Popsicle sticks or any kind of sticks for the puppets, fishing line (10lb - 30lb weight) , tin foil

Optional: faux eyes

Other Supplies: Paper and pencil, rolling pin (can substitute water bottle). Suggested - 1 piece of canvas (to be used as a work space, alternatively newspaper may be used but it may rip or newsprint may transfer to the clay)
