Graphic Novel Epic Saga Master Course

Description

6 WEEK CLASS. Ages 8 - 15, Meets once a week on Thursday, 5:30 - 6:30pm CST. Dates: Feb 18 - March 25

Calling all young Mages and Scribes! Join us this season on a quest of CREATION! Our mission together is to write and illustrate a book the likes of which the 9 realms have never seen! First we shall begin with the basics: figure drawing and anatomy! Skills that thrill! And knowledge of proportion! THEN, we dive in deeper into story structure and character development. Following that we boldly dive into even darker depths as we examine all of the SECRETS of the ancient language of the sequential arts, otherwise known to modern humans as COMICS! At the end of these six weeks we will hold in our hands an illuminated tome (large, scholarly book) that will be sung of for ages to come and perhaps even change the course of civilization as we know it!!! So buckle up buckaroo's and sharpen your pencils for the next stop is Creation... and GLORY!!! Teacher: Asa Jones

Materials: Sketchbook, pencils, ink pens, ruler, paper for final project (we recommend cardstock or watercolor paper), stapler. Optional: watercolor paint, colored pencils/markers, book binding materials (yarn, twine).

CLASS AGENDA

WEEK ONE: HUMAN ANATOMY BASICS!!!

Together we tackle the breakdown of the form. The knee bone' connected to... huh? *bring pencil, eraser and blank paper*

HOMEWORK: Practice what we learned - erase the guides and put an outfit on them! Give ‘em a cool haircut while yer at it!

WEEK TWO: CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT!!!

Every good tale needs a hero, and every hero needs a villain! Or perhaps it's just about friends! Or cyborgs! Or unicorns!!! Together we shall invent a cast to drive the story to the end!!!

HOMEWORK: Have at least 5 characters drawn with short bio's for each!

WEEK THREE: STORY STRUCTURE!!!

Once upon a time... Or was it? How do we make our characters come full circle in their tale? Let's find out!!!

HOMEWORK: Create a full story guide, with major plot points clearly stated: Beginning, middle and end!

WEEK FOUR: SCRIPT WRITING!!!

We learn how to write the outline and dialogue (talking) for the story. Together we cover panels, word bubbles, sound effects and more!

HOMEWORK: Make a list of 1-50 and state the action that will be illustrated in each panel!

WEEK FIVE: ILLUSTRATE THE SCRIPT!!!

It gets more fun by the week as we actually get to blast off and draw the action so it explodes off the page!!! We will go over and use dynamic angles, interesting and appealing panel shapes and sizes and incorporate close ups and establishing shots!

HOMEWORK: DRAW THE GRAPHIC NOVEL!!!

WEEK SIX: PRESENTATION!!!

We get to show our adoring fans and families what we created and collectively watch their jaws drop and their eyes pop out of their heads in amazement!

Looking forward to seeing y’all on the magic screen as we go forth into the realm of Comics and DESTINY!!!

Materials: Sketchbook, pencils, ink pens, ruler, paper for final project (we recommend cardstock or watercolor paper), stapler. Optional: watercolor paint, colored pencils/markers, book binding materials (yarn, twine).
