Have you ever wanted to make things disappear or float in the air, find a selected card, or just be generally amazing? We will learn mystifying magic tricks with everyday objects. Basics of magical trickiness, including sleight of hand and misdirection, will be covered. All week campers are preparing for their final production - a LIVE Magic Show for family and friends! Campers will pick out fabulous costumes, learn performance technique, and perfect their tricks. Get ready to dazzle on stage and make your friends and family marvel, gasp, and laugh! Materials: 12” of string, two rubber bands, pencil or pen, two quarters, deck of cards (not plastic).
CLASS AGENDA:
Homework - Every day campers are expected to practice the magic tricks they learned that day in class.
Day 1: Basic rules of magic, the knot trick, rubber band teleportation. Materials: 12” string, two rubber bands. Homework includes a playlist of videos of famous magicians which will be emailed to parents.
Day 2: Learn how to misdirect your audience. Discuss the videos we watched: how does a magician use character and style? Develop your own "Magician Persona." Materials: Pencil or pen, your own hands
Day 3: Discover "sleight of hand" with coin magic. Materials: Two quarters
Day 4: Card magic. Materials: Deck of cards (ordinary paper cards, not plastic)
Day 5: Mindreading magic. Performance technique, rehearse for final show. Materials: 5 different-colored crayons and your most mysterious gaze
Day 6: Final dress rehearsal. Live Magic Show!! Families log on for last 30 minutes of class.
