Virtual Theater

Description

8 WEEK CLASS. Ages 7 - 13, Meets once a week on Mondays, 6:00 - 7:00pm CST. Dates: Jan 11 - March 8. No class Feb 15 (Lundi Gras).

Join us once a week for 8 weeks in an extended version of our Summer Theater class! The first few weeks we’re going to focus on acting techniques and exercises, with fun drama homework including monologues and partner scene-work! This preparation will help the kids learn the skills to develop their characters, hone their acting abilities, and ultimately perform live! The last five weeks of class we’ll focus on preparing a brand new play written by teacher Tracy Camp! On the last day of camp, we’ll invite friends and family to tune-in for our live performance! TEACHER: Tracy Camp

Every day begins with vocal and movement warm ups. We then rehearse the play, working on acting techniques throughout rehearsal. At the end of class, we focus on either costumes, props, virtual backgrounds, or title cards. A LOT goes into a theater production, and every day in between classes the kids will have assignments to complete, in addition to working on memorizing their lines.

WEEK 1 - 3: Acting techniques and exercises, with fun drama homework including monologues and partner scene-work!

WEEK 4 - Assign parts, plan virtual backgrounds

Homework - Begin working on Virtual Backgrounds. This is the element of "set design." We recommend that campers create their own backgrounds either by drawing or collaging images since this adds an extra element of creativity. However they are also welcome to find images online. Here are instructions for how to upload the images to zoom. **Completed Virtual Backgrounds are due on Wednesday

WEEK 5 - Rehearse, plan costumes

Homework - Start working on your costumes! We encourage the kids to get creative using what they already have at home. Costumes should be simple to take on and off, focus on accessories. We will have quick transitions, so the easier to change the better! **Costumes must be finalized by class on Thursday

WEEK 6 - Rehearse, plan props and title cards

Homework - Practice practice practice your lines! Goal is for all campers to be "off book" by Thursday. When campers have their lines memorized, it is easier for them to do character work and focus on technique. In addition, please build or find all props for the show. Create title cards (will be assigned in class). **All props and title cards must be ready for class Thursday

WEEK 7 - Rehearse - focusing on transitions, character work

Homework - Rehearse your lines! Campers should be off book for the performance. Make sure all virtual backgrounds, costumes, props and title cards are ready for the big show!!

WEEK 8 - Full dress rehearsal. Live performance!!

At the end of class, we focus on either costumes, props, virtual backgrounds, or title cards. A LOT goes into a theater production, and every day in between classes the kids will have assignments to complete, in addition to working on memorizing their lines.
