6 WEEK CLASS. Ages 7 - 13, Meets once a week on Wednesday, 6:00 - 7:00pm CST. Dates: Feb 24 - March 31
This class is open to both beginner and advanced students. Join us for this weekly improvisational comedy and storytelling class - some of the best actors and comedians started out learning the basics of IMPROV comedy! Campers learn various short form games and exercises that are both fun and the foundation of performance art. Improv is a great tool for unlocking creativity in other art forms - including acting, public speaking, writing, and anything else you can imagine! After learning the basics of “Yes and-,” they will be taught scene setting, character development, and story-building. At the end of the class, they will perform an improv show for their family and friends to enjoy! TEACHER: Susan Gordan
CLASS AGENDA:
WEEK 1: “Yes and”: We will learn why teamwork and “yes anding” their scene partner will allow a scene to form freely and the creativity to flow.
WEEK 2: Scene Setting: Whether they’re on the moon or in their own backyard, campers will learn how to make their setting of choice real for an audience.
WEEK 3: Character Development: We will learn how the characters we play make a scene special! We’ll practice exercises that will help them invest in their improvised characters, whether it’s puppy, frog, cat, grandma, or anything else they can think up!
WEEK 4: Surprise: Student Choice!
WEEK 5: Show Formats: We will learn short form performance games that will utilize all of the scene work techniques previously taught in the week. Prepare for final performance.
WEEK 6: Performance: We will perform a short form show for family and friends!
